Deepak Raj Samal beat Shahnawaz Khan in the final by 2-1 games to win the men’s singles title in the Cuttack District Inter-Club Carrom Tournament, which concluded here at Barabati Stadium today. Earlier in the semifinals, Samal prevailed over Intekhab Khan 23-19, 25-3, while Shahnawaz got the better of Naresh Guin 20-0, 17-5.
Birendra Nath Singh emerged veteran singles champion, defeating experienced Mayadhar Sahu in the final 18-15, 23-13. Barabati Club-B captured the team title with a 2-1 win over Barabati Club-A in the summit clash. Earlier in the semifinals, Barabati-B beat Jayadurga Club and Barabati-A scraped past Friends United Club.
Odisha Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera handed over the prizes at the closing ceremony. Carrom Association of Odisha president Satya Mohanty, secretary Dr Usha Ranjan Parija, host Cuttack District Carrom Association working president Sanjib Kumar Dutta and secretary Birendra Nath Singh were present on the occasion. Altogether 180 players from 24 clubs participated in the four-day championship.
